02 How fast can a Class 1 eBike go?

The motor assists up to 20 mph. You can pedal faster on your own power, but the electric assist stops at that speed limit per federal classification.

03 Do you need a license to ride a Class 1 eBike?

No. In most U.S. states, Class 1 eBikes are treated like traditional bicycles. No license, registration, or insurance is required.

04 Where can you ride a Class 1 eBike?

Class 1 eBikes are allowed on most bike paths, multi-use trails, bike lanes, and public roads. They have the fewest riding restrictions of any eBike class.

05 Can a Class 1 eBike have a throttle?

No. Class 1 eBikes are pedal-assist only. If an eBike has a throttle, it falls under Class 2. The motor on a Class 1 only activates when you pedal.
